About our organisation...
The Ormskirk & District Junior Bowling Initiative started on an informal basis in 2007, after the Windmill Bowling Club was successful in a bid to the Awards for All Lottery Fund for a grant which included monies to fund the purchase of junior bowling equipment and for the training of instructors. This first year saw Ormskirk C of E Primary School and St James Primary School, Westhead, taking part in taster sessions. The Windmill Bowling Club also started Saturday morning sessions for children and formed a team to play freindly matches.
On Monday 28th February 2008, at a meeting of the instructors, it was agreed to formalise the Junior Bowling Initiative and a constitution was adopted. The four founder member clubs are the Windmill, Comrades, Halton Castle and Cockbeck Bowling Clubs.
Already for 2008 more schools have expressed an interest in taking part, and we are looking forward to more sessions in the coming year. It is likely that the Halton Castle will be running Saturday morning sessions in 2008 and it is possible that a junior league will be formed. We also hope to arrange friendly games against other clubs locally. Any Club in the West Lancashire area is free to join - we have set a low membership fee of just £5 which will just pay for basic administration. Please contact our Secreatry if you are interested in joining, or just want more details of what we are planning to do.
